Apology Letter

4 min read

When starting Drop By Drop, I had a meeting with my colleagues, where were established the initial direction of the project. It was without much thought that I brought up the prospect of working with DeviantART, an organization unheard of by the majority of my partners. After educating them about the DeviantART community and highlighting the creativity it embraces, we all became very excited about planning initiatives with DeviantART. Natalie Juhlke, a fellow deviant and close friend, expressed interest in assisting in the project from the beginning. Since then, Natalie has brought big ideas, inspiring and improving upon existing plans created by Drop by Drop. The Drop By Drop team would also like to thank Fiona, fourteenthstar, for all the direction, advice and support that she has given to our team.

However, we regret our mistake in creating an account on DeviantART. When it came time to choose a username we saw that "Drop By Drop" was taken, and we needed to make an alternative. Immediately, we thought of the username "DropByDropCharity." By doing so, we unintentionally produced a misinterpretation that was not noticed at the time. Including the word "Charity" infers certain assumptions that do not hold true. This account is still in existence, but is no longer the main account of our project.

Drop By Drop is a philanthropic project created to raise funds for Free the Children's Adopt-A-Village program, while concurrently promoting leadership and youth activism. Drop by Drop fully intends to become a registered charity through an official application to the Government of Canada, a process that is currently being completed. However, we have yet to become a separate entity, and in the mean time, it is wrong for us to in any way allude that we are a charity.

We apologize for our mistake and hope that this error will not damage future partnerships. Drop by Drop is sorry for any confusion that may have resulted, and we understand the breach of trust with deviants. We would like to stress that changes are being made to resurrect the situation. Starting January 6th, 2009, the dropbydropcharity account will be officially moved to our new username that better reflects the iniative: DropByDropProject. We ask you, as you have shown interest with the project, to show your support on this new account by watching it and participating in its future activities. This same letter will be posted on the present account, and all future information will be directed to this location.

The Drop By Drop Team recognizes its mistake and is prepared to work to correct any consequences of our actions. Presently, Drop by Drop is not working with DeviantART, Inc on any official iniatives. However, we still would love the opportuntiy to work side by side with the DeviantART community, together raising awareness in the capacity of one person to make an active and noticeable change. Drop by Drop is not currenlty a charity, as we've previously stated, but it does not mean that our initiatives and actions do not reflect those of a charity. Our team is dedicated to providing clean water and sanitation systems to those of need in Kenya. Regardless of our official standing as a charity, we as just as committed and passionated about making this change.

Thank you for your continued support,

Project Manager/Co-Founder, Drop By Drop

:bulletblue: Natalie Juhke (thegnat)

    The Impact

The objective of Drop by Drop is two-fold, operating on a local and global level. All generated funds are dedicated to alleviating the harsh situation in Kenya, where struggles for water, life's most fundamental necessity are commonplace. Through our multiple projects we hope to raise sufficient funds to supply clean water and sanitation systems within deprived communities in Kenya.

Additionally, we hope to stimulate a fundamental mind shift in the minds of the youth of today. Through events, workshops and school presentations we will to inspire students to act on their passions.

There exists a great divide between the potential of our youth and their actions. It is our goal to close that gap. Far too many youth organizations focus their efforts on improving existing leaders. We hope to create new ones. The leaders behind Drop by Drop are not bureaucratic professionals. We are students. That fact allows us to relate to our audience. We believe that under engaged students will be able to witness us as a reflection of themselves, and parallel our success as leaders as their true potential.

Our presentations are not only about Kenya, not only about Drop by Drop, they deliver a diverse perception of global issues and realistic strategies to tackle them.  If anything else, we want to make students self-aware, knowledgeable of their own gifts and talents and restore faith in their inherent capability to change the world.

Flowers for Charity

:thumb75179033:

The Charity

Drop by Drop is a novel project created in support of clean water and sanitation systems in Kenya through various initiatives. Its concept extends far beyond that of a simple fundraiser. In actuality, it embodies a lifestyle philosophy. It embraces the idea that true progress is accomplished little by little, person by person, drop by drop. As youth, we are powerful beyond measure, and positioned in manners which allow us to effectuate change in our local and global communities.

The Project

thegnat learned how to make little paper flowers about a year or so ago and realized how beautiful they look on a desk or a night table. They also make great little gifts (she's given several "bouquets" away to friends and they loved them). So here's what she's offering.

A $10 donation will get you 5 individual flowers with your choice of colour from the list below. $5 will automatically go to Drop by Drop and the other $5 will cover materials, shipping and packaging costs.

If you're interested in donating but don't want paper flowers, thegnat can offer a 1 month journal feature instead.

:bulletblue: The Goal is to raise $100 by January 5th, 2009 :bulletblue:

If you're interested in donating to a really worthy cause, please send thegnat a note with your address and the colours you'd like for your flowers. She will be accepting donations via PayPal Only, so please send your payment to thegnat[at]gmail[dot]com. Please include your deviantART username in the description, so we can keep track of the donations.

Flowers will be available in Yellow, Pale Yellow, Blue or Pink.
An individual Flower consists of 5 or 6 petals.
Flowers can be a solid colour, or 2 colours (Blue & Pink..Yellow & Blue, etc).

If you have any questions, feel free to send thegnat a note.

For more information about the Charity or how to contribute, please visit our dA account dropbydropcharity or Drop by Drop's website.
